We've used a few different Korean language books to get by, but this is our favorite. It has essential phrases in English, then in readable phonetic Korean, then in Korean characters.
I used it to practice my reading of characters (once I could read), and also to ask at the front desk for toilet paper.
This book could save you all kinds of trouble, and might bring you closer to 'savvy world traveler' status.
